After a pet dies, it can be hard to even look at their old stuff. However, many of those items can be used when and if you are ready to get a new pet. In the meantime, you can put those items in storage.
If you are storing pet supplies after the death of a pet, or for any other reason, here are a few tips to help you:
1. Purge your pet supplies before putting them in storage
Before you put your pet supplies in storage, take a few moments to go through them and make sure you only have what you need. If your pet has died, you can get rid of old medical records and paperwork. You should also dispose of medications and toys that are too worn to be used again.
If you have anything that was special to your pet and you wouldn't feel comfortable seeing a new pet use it, consider disposing of those items in a respectful way. For example, you could have them cremated with your pet, buried under a tree or given to a special charity if they are still in useable shape.
2. Clean out carriers and optimise their space
Before putting pet carriers in storage, make sure they are clean. Remove bits of food and old hair so they don't become mice snacks and bedding. Then, optimise the space offered by your carriers and fill them full of pet accessories, from doggy beds to cat toys.
3. Wash soft items with a pet-odor neutraliser
So that your new pet isn't confused by smells from your old pet, wash all of your soft toys, bedding and other items with a pet odor neutraliser. You can buy special sprays designed to eliminate pet odors, or you can simply add some baking soda to the detergent when you wash these items in your washing machine.
4. Seal bags of food
If you have old bags of pet food or treats, you can store that as well. However, you want to take steps to ensure the food doesn't attract rats or mice to your storage unit. Seal the food by placing it in an air-tight container.
Unopened cans of food can also be stored, and they do not need to be in a separate storage container. Once you take food items out of storage, remember to look at their expiration date to ensure they are still okay to consume.
You should be able to store most of your pet related items, but some storage companies may have regulations. For the best information on what you can store, contact local storage companies like Lisarow Self Storage.

My yard is in the shade of both of my neighbour's homes for most of the day which makes it quite hard to grow some of my favourite plants. I have used a combination of shade resistant plants and pavers to create a lovely space that is good for entertaining all year round. This blog has some tips on creating a pleasant atmosphere in your shady backyard, particularly if you have a yard that is too shady to grow many kinds of plants.
