Keeping your baby cool and comfortable in their nursery

Home & Garden Blog

As part of the planning process for your nursery, particularly if you are expecting a summer baby, it's sensible idea to contemplate how you will keep your baby cool and comfortable as they sleep at night. A comfortable sleeping temperature helps your baby go to sleep easier and stay sleeping for longer - making everyone in the house have a better nights sleep!

Keep baby in loose and comfortable bed clothing

Keeping baby in loose and comfortable clothing helps allow air flow around their body and let's them self regulate their body temperature. On hot nights you can look at letting them sleep in just a nappy - they don't always need to be in full pyjama sets no matter how adorable they look in them!

For some babies, swaddling is an important part of getting to sleep so make sure you have some lightweight cotton or muslin wraps on the baby registry.

Keep the room as cool as possible during the day

Helping to keep light out during the day stops you from having as much of a job in cooling the room down at night. While you can't control the orientation of the room block out blinds or curtains and solar glare films can be extremely efficient in reducing the amount of warmth absorbed during the day. If you live in an area that get's a cooling afternoon breeze it can be great to open up the door and windows to take advantage of the natural cooling power of convection!

Consider installing a permanent air conditioner unit

As the temperature can drop substantially overnight having an air conditioning unit that can control to a given temperature helps ensure that the nursery doesn't get overly cold after everyone has gone to bed. This can be as much of a risk, as temperatures often drop substantially overnight once the sun has gone down. Look for a model that does not use recirculated water as this can build germs and distribute infectious diseases.

If you do use an air conditioner unit, angle it away from the crib to ensure the baby doesn't get overly cold. Instead angle it above the crib or away, to create a cool overall air temperature in the room.

Keeping baby as comfortable as possible during sleep with keep everyone well rested and at their best during a busy and tiring time. Why not investigate the best cooling options for your nursery with a home air conditioning specialist now? Contact a company like Multicool Pty Ltd to learn more.

Shade friendly plants and pavers for your patio

My yard is in the shade of both of my neighbour's homes for most of the day which makes it quite hard to grow some of my favourite plants. Even though the yard is shady I still want it to have some nice look ground cover and be a cool place to entertain people. I have used a combination of shade resistant plants and pavers to create a lovely space that is good for entertaining all year round. This blog has some tips on creating a pleasant atmosphere in your shady backyard, particularly if you have a yard that is too shady to grow many kinds of plants.
