Trends are definitely changing in 2015 when it comes to home gardening. Home owners are moving away from natural wood colours and going with darker stains to complement their flowers. Sophistication is a key word that is being tossed around as you look at more modern and sleek designs. Also, the focus on added levels and cascading dimensions is also really popular right now. Here are five trends from 2015 that you should think about introducing to your home garden as you shop for new garden equipment and other supplies:
Dark Coloured Fences
Traditional fences have started to receive drastic makeovers as fences have begun to serve as more of a backdrop in a garden setting. While bright colours are always a popular solution, the one colour that is really gaining steam is black. Surprising to say the least, black fences have grown in popularity because they create an exciting dynamic that complements the bright colours of flowers and maintains a neutral background that does not overwhelm the visual senses.
More Edible Microgreens Please
Edible microgreens are the popular trend for gardens these days. They add a nice complementary decor for larger vegetables and plants, while also adding a great taste to your home-cooked meals. Planting and growing these tiny sprouts and relatively quick and easy, with seeds taking a little over a week to reach full sprout. They also offer a load of nutrition.
Stained Flower Beds
Like dark coloured fences, dark raised flower beds are in this year. The reasoning is much the same in that it offers a dark neutral colour that puts the eye's focus on the bright colours of your plants. They also add an air of sophistication that more natural wood stains don't necessarily promote in a home garden.
Small Meadow-Like Flower Beds
The meadow garden look is adding much different design elements to gardens than the traditional plant and vegetative areas. Gardeners are experimenting with different waves of colour and contrasting levels and dimensions. Having wild flowers will make your garden look fuller and actually boost the look of more traditional roses and lilies that you may have in other flower beds.
Bamboo
Another popular choice this year is the introduction of bamboo accessories. Whether it's in the form of trellises or canopies, bamboo is a nice natural contrast to the bright, rich colours of your garden. It adds dimensions to the landscaping and seamlessly blend into the background. Couple them with a dark background and they're sure to stand out without overpowering the colours of your plants.

My yard is in the shade of both of my neighbour's homes for most of the day which makes it quite hard to grow some of my favourite plants. Even though the yard is shady I still want it to have some nice look ground cover and be a cool place to entertain people. I have used a combination of shade resistant plants and pavers to create a lovely space that is good for entertaining all year round. This blog has some tips on creating a pleasant atmosphere in your shady backyard, particularly if you have a yard that is too shady to grow many kinds of plants.
