Electricity is something that you rely on in your home, but it is possible for issues to arise from time to time. No matter how old or new the electrical wiring may be in your home, it is almost impossible to avoid problems becoming noticeable. It is important for you to be aware of the most common warning signs designed to make diagnosing common electrical problems much simpler.
On and Off
Recessed lighting is common in many modern homes. This type of lighting is installed above the ceiling, but it is possible for you to begin noticing that your recessed lights go on and off without you touching the switch. When this occurs, you should be aware that there is a built-in safety switch that exists within most brands of recessed lights. This feature is designed to ensure that the light does not overheat, but it can also be the cause of your lights going off and on. You need to check the recessed light to make sure that it is the correct wattage and that no insulation is touching the bulb.
Odour
When you have weird odours coming from within your home, this is often an indicator of some type of problem. An unusual odour of something burning might be connected to electrical issues within your home. You should never just disregard this type of smell; it is a good idea to be on the lookout for an appliance or device that is damaged. You need to track the smell back to the appliance or device and then unplug it immediately. It is possible for some electronic devices or appliances to run hot.
In most cases there might be a faulty wire or loose wiring that is causing the appliance to burn hot and for the smell to be noticeable. It is a good idea to have the outlet and electrical wiring in your home inspected by an electrical contractor to ensure that the issue is corrected
Dimming
If you notice that some of the lights within your home dim, while others brighten; you could be dealing with an electrical problem. In most cases, this is caused by a main neutral connection that is faulty. You might also notice that some light bulbs are popping before their lifespan should be up. The main connection needs to be repaired in order for this problem to be resolved within your home, and for the dimming and brightening to stop altogether.

My yard is in the shade of both of my neighbour's homes for most of the day which makes it quite hard to grow some of my favourite plants. Even though the yard is shady I still want it to have some nice look ground cover and be a cool place to entertain people. I have used a combination of shade resistant plants and pavers to create a lovely space that is good for entertaining all year round. This blog has some tips on creating a pleasant atmosphere in your shady backyard, particularly if you have a yard that is too shady to grow many kinds of plants.
