Outdoor furniture provides you a way to relax on your patio and enjoy meals in front of your garden. When it comes to outdoor furniture, wicker and rattan is often chosen since it can handle different weather conditions, but there are also some types of wood used in backyard furniture.
Teak
A popular wood for backyard furniture is teak. This provides a medium-dark golden brown colour, sometimes with a lighter honey hue in the wood. It allows you to have furniture that looks just like the wood furniture inside your home, but with a finish that isn't ruined with the outdoor climate. Teak is known for handling various weather conditions and not experiencing rot or warping quite as easily as other types of wood. It is also considered a low-maintenance type of wood, only requiring the occasional brushing or dusting. Mild dish soap and warm water can also be used to clean it as needed. Just make sure you let it dry completely if you wash it, preferably drying it more quickly with a soft towel.
Shorea
Another type of tropical hardwood is shorea. The great thing about shorea is that it is resistant to a lot of outdoor elements, from insects to decay due to moisture. Whether you live somewhere with a lot of humidity or deal with frequent rain and snow, it won't get ruined just because it gets wet. Shorea is also resistant to mould, mildew, and fungus, which makes it a healthy option for your family to use on your patio. Shorea is more of a dark brown colour, though over time it can change to more of a grey colour. To let it last even longer, some wood oil is recommended as a type of sealant for the wood.
White Cedar
If you want outdoor wood furniture that is a lighter colour, white cedar is the perfect option. This is a softwood that has a light, off-white colour. It is excellent for maximum comfort since it tends to be splinter-free and resists mould, mildew, and insect infestation. You won't have to worry about termites invading the wood nor do you need to cover the furniture every time there is a storm. White cedar is known to last a long time, so as long as you keep it clean and take good care of it, it becomes a long-term investment. White cedar is easy to clean, being able to handle bleach very well without ruining the wood.

My yard is in the shade of both of my neighbour's homes for most of the day which makes it quite hard to grow some of my favourite plants. Even though the yard is shady I still want it to have some nice look ground cover and be a cool place to entertain people. I have used a combination of shade resistant plants and pavers to create a lovely space that is good for entertaining all year round. This blog has some tips on creating a pleasant atmosphere in your shady backyard, particularly if you have a yard that is too shady to grow many kinds of plants.
